About JRQ

I am Jane Robinett. I am a jazz vocalist, entertainer, and band leader. My ensemble is called JRQ, the Jane Robinett Quintet. We serve the Colorado front range and southern Wyoming.

I have the pleasure of playing music with some of the finest musicians in the region in small or larger ensembles.

We can perform as an intimate duo or trio–vocals backed by piano or piano and bass–up to larger combos including a variety of instruments. I have put together ensembles including trumpet, sax, guitar, violin, accordion, even a vibraphone depending on the music and theme of the evening.

The perfect evening of music is a lot like the perfect meal.

I strive for every performance to be balanced–sweet and spicy, cool and hot–varied to keep your interest but satisfying. All the components need to work well together–volumes, blend, tempo, rhythm and harmonies–as well as the visual experience.

My philosophy is simple

I match the music to the event, choosing songs that set the mood but speak to people while adding variety to keep it interesting. We create a framework for spontaneity–the magic that happens between jazz musicians.

Every song has something special

Sometimes it’s a rhythm or a lyric that grabs me. I love to find forgotten songs that trigger passionate memories of a certain time or place. Often, I’ll simply be looking for songs with that special something that will make people want to dance.

Dancers enjoying our music

We have a richly varied repertoire–straight-ahead jazz, vintage swing, blues, Latin, progressive rock. We play tunes from Cole Porter to Sting, Willie Nelson to Sergio Mendez, Joni Mitchell to Dave Brubeck. I love songs that merge different styles like boogie woogie that breaks into jazz swing. We draw heavily on the Great American Songbook as well as the bossa nova tradition and classics from French and Latin cultures. We pride ourselves on having unusual, fresh arrangements of classic tunes to keep them exciting. You will be thrilled to hear songs that you love but may not have heard anyone perform live.

Each show is crafted to fit the venue and theme of the occasion

We love playing for weddings, special events, and galas and crafting shows that perfectly complement for the occasion.
