New Live Music Video: “Comes Love”

I’m thrilled with our new live music video:  “Comes Love.”  This is one of my favorite tunes, and I just posted it here.  Sam Stept wrote the music for this song in 1939 and Lew Brown and Charles Tobias added lyrics for the Broadway musical Yokel Boy starring Phil silvers and Buddy Ebsen.  It’s bluesy with just the right amount of campiness.

The musicians on this recording are just amazing:  Scott Martin on piano with Anisha Rush on alto sax, Gonazlo Teppa on bass, Dru Heller on drums.  Many thanks to Ben Makinen at Bmakin Music Film & Photography and also to Colin Bricker at Mighty Fine Productions for sound engineering.   Finally, I especially appreciate Scott Martin and his label, Liberian Handshake Records, for putting this together for me.

Thank you, Cheyenne Rotarians!

We had a lovely evening playing for the Cheyenne Rotary Club annual picnic at Little America.  It stopped raining at 4:30, we took off all the plastic and played our hearts out until it started raining again at 8:00, but had a wonderful time with a bunch of wonderful folks.  The band sounded fabulous with Dennis Griffing on bass, Shawn Mickelson on trumpet, Mike Reid on keys and Peter Queal on guitar.  I sang and played a little percussion.  I especially appreciate Mary Guthrie for organizing this and to the amazing staff at Little America.    Here are a few photos of our night.The-BandThe-Band-3MaryThe-guysMarshall-and-JenniferThe-crowd-1Bud-and-ClaireThe-crowd-3Jane-and-Griff-2

Cleo Laine and John Dankworth

Great vocals and hot band. Don’t miss the alto and vocal duet with her late husband, Sir John Dankworth.  Dame Cleo Laine, now 87, was famous for her scat singing and had an amazing voice with a nearly four-octive range at her height as a performer.  John Dankworth composed jazz and played saxophone.
